Hydrangea macrophylla Blaumeise - Hydrangea - Plant in 10.5 cm Pot
These are second year plants that are very well established. They have multiple shoots and can be planted out or repotted soon after receipt, or held in the pot they arrive in until spring.
Hydrangea macrophylla, perhaps one of the best known garden plants. Originally from Japan these robust and reliable plants produce a truly stunning display in summer and autumn. Hydrangea macrophylla Blaumeise is one of the best hydrangeas from the Swiss breeder Teller and has been granted the RHS Award of Garden Merit. This Hydrangea almost glows, with large flat flowers composed of very wide deep blue to indigo sterile florets surrounding tiny fertile flowers even deeper in hue in acidic soil. In alkaline soils the flowers will be of shades of pink. The colour holds well through the summer. Accentuating the showy blooms is the bold shiny bright green leaves with a strongly toothed edge. If you have alkaline soil, regular watering with a Hydrangea bluing agent will help ensure bluer flowers. Blueing agent works much more successfully in pots or containers. Very easy to grow in sun or semi shade, some shade from the hottest summer sun is preferable. Can be grown in the garden or in a pot or container. In containers use a good quality compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
