Cornus kousa are native to East Asia including Korea, China and Japan and have been widely cultivated as an ornamental trees, with many different varieties and cultivars having been developed, especially in the USA. In spring the sheer impact of these beautiful trees is almost without peer. They are worthy contenders for a position in any garden, large or small. Cornus kousa National is a selected form of Cornus kousa var. chinensis. A very beautiful, vigorous, upright, vase shaped, small garden tree with flat almost plated branches, that is renowned for its profuse production of flowers, even on very young plants, in spring. The ivory white, single bract flowers are produced in such abundance they overlap on the branches. If the previous year had a very poor summer the abundance of flowers may be reduced. The leaves of this cultivar emerge with a distinct reddish tint. In autumn they turn to stunning shades of orange, red and yellow. Inedible strawberry like fruits, bigger than most Cornus Kousa, cling to the branches in autumn. The fruits are very attractive to birds. A beautiful spectacle in any garden! Cornus kousa National prefers a full sun to light shade location in moist, fertile acidic to neutral soil. In a pot use a good quality ericaceous compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.

These plants are grafted to ensure a good quality, true to type and long lived plant
