Cornus alba Sibirica are native to much of Russia and the old Manchurian area of north eastern China. Sibirica Variegata is slightly less vigorous than its cousin Cornus alba Sibirica and with deeper red stems. An RHS Award of Garden Merit winner, it has become a long standing favourite for its intense stem colour in the winter garden. In addition to the winter stems the creamy white variegated foliage makes a stunning spectacle in summer and turns beautiful plum red shades in autumn. It is important to prune most of the stems back to near ground level on mature plants to ensure a plentiful supply of new stems. The young stem have the best colour. Thrives in wet or dry soils of almost any structure in a sunny or semi shade location. Can be used as single species planting, but also look great when planted together with the Yellow, Vermilion or black stem varieties (flaveramea, Midwinter Fire, Kesselringii). This plant can be used in a container. If planting in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
