Cistus x purpureus Alan Fradd - Purple Flrd. Rock Rose - Plant in 2 L Pot
A very popular and distinctive garden plant. Originally from the Mediterranean and North African regions, it has become a favourite among gardeners and landscapers alike and not without good reason. A small evergreen with attractive long thin green leaves that are ideal to set off the mass of white, yellow centred flowers with a beautiful, distinct maroon blotch at the base of each petal, that cover the bush in summer. Of it's many attributes, one is the fact it is among the most drought tolerant plants you can plant in your garden and if you live on thin chalky soil, it will still perform well! Easy to grow in full sun in almost any free draining soil. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or a container. If planting in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. A few cautionary words. While we describe many plants as drought tolerant, it is not so much that they can survive without water, (some like cactus and succulents can) but more that they have a much greater ability to draw water up from deep down in the ground. This is an important distinction when they are grown in a pot or container, as no matter how good they are at sucking up water, if the pot is dry they have nothing to suck up and will deteriorate and perish just the same as any other plant. So the moral of the story is, you can't plant them in containers thinking they will survive neglect much better than most other plants, because sadly, they won't!
