Orginating from Western China. Ceratostigma willmottianum is an RHS Award of Garden Merit winner. A slightly spreading, deciduous shrub which flowers in late summer and early autumn when many other flowers have finished. A very striking sight with masses of small round, really vivid, cobalt blue flowers from August to October, and in autumn, the leaves turn a rich russet-red. This plant seems to struggle to decide if it is a shrub or a herbaceous plant, so in some winters it can die back, but always comes back in the spring! It is delightful in whatever location you decide to use it. Easy to grow in moist but free draining soils in a full sun or semi shade location. Best suited to a front of border position. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or a container. If planting in a pot or other container. Use a good quality John Innes compost as this plant will be there a long time and peaty types of compost eventually degrade and become too packed and choke the roots. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 5-6 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. John Innes is a soil based compost.
