Berberis thunbergii Bagatelle - Barberry - Plant in 2 L Pot

The original Berberis thunbergii were introduced from Japan around 1864. There are now over 500 different species/cutlivars, in many shapes, sizes and colours. Over the years they have become one of the most planted of all shrubs. Berberis thunbergii Bagatelle is probably the finest of the dwarf purple foliaged varieties with its ultra compact habit and superb dark foliage, with cherry red new growths from spring to autumn. In spring, just as the leaves begin to emerge, it produces small, dainty yellow flowers, followed by deep red berries. The leaves turn a lovely reddish purple in autumn before falling away for winter. In sun or semi shade and most soils, this easy to grow variety makes a great addition to any planting scheme where the leaf colour is in the design.
