Native to the Patagonia region of Chile and Argentina, Berberis darwinii has become a favourite in parks and gardens in the Uk. and has been granted the RHS Award of Garden Merit. An evergreen with dense but tidy growth, small dark shiny green slightly spined but dainty leaves that are ideal to set off the mass of intense orange tinged red flowers that cover the bush in spring. Flowers are followed by attractive dark blue fruits. Easy to grow in full sun or semi shade and almost any soil that does not waterlog, including chalky soils. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot. When growing in a pot or other container. Use a good quality compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8 - 9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
