Albizia julibrissin Rosea - Silk Tree - Plant in 2 L Pot

Native from the Middle East to China and Korea these very beautiful Mimosa like trees, are one of my favourites. Their dainty, finely cut foliage and fascinating, fragrant, fluffy pink flowers, were first described in the west around 1745. This form "Rosea" is one of the hardiest of the Albizias and was introduced by Ernest Wilson, from Korea in 1918. Traditionally there is some doubt as to the suitability of this tree for the UK climate however I have often visited northeastern China and in cities such as Shenyang and Dalian on the Liadong peninsula, winter daytime temperatures are around -15c for months and often much colder, Albizia julibrissin are planted as street trees! In summer the fragrance from these trees, when walking along the pavements under them, is quite overwhelming! The seed we use to produce our plants is bought from a company in the USA that source their seed from northern China, to ensure the plants we sell have the hardiest genetic heritage. This Albizia will flower in the Uk. if planted in a sunny south facing location, however, the flowers will be slightly smaller than in hotter climes. I have a large plant in a pot that produces a good quantity of flowers each year. Can be pruned after flowering so will also make an excellent conservatory plant as well as a very effective bonsai subject. A very beautiful tree and ideal for small gardens. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot or other container. These plants are not ericaceous and can be grown in ordinary compost, however, they will grow better and give better colour in neutral to acid soil. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year. The plants we are selling here are 40 to 60cm tall.
