Acer palmatum Aureum - Golden Japanese Maple - Grafted Plant in 2 L Pot

Native to Japan China and Korea the Acer palmatums were introduced from Japan around the middle 1800's. Acer palmatums have to be among the most beautiful of all our garden trees. Acer palmatum Aureum is a superb Acer for spring to autumn colour. Foliage emerges bright yellow in spring, turning slowly to a yellow green in summer and striking yellows, oranges and reds in autumn. In spring clusters of reddish purple flowers appear. A lovely small, compact tree, ideal for patios, general planting and gardens where space is limited. Grow in dappled shade with protection from harsh winds in an acidic to neutral, fertile, moist, free draining soils. Will not grow well in chalky soils. Very popular as a Bonsai subject. If growing in a pot or other container, use a good quality John Innes ericaceous compost. These plants are not ericaceous and can be grown in ordinary compost, however they will grow better and give better colour in neutral to acid compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires.
