The species Cordylines are native to New Zealand, however modern breeding programs have produced an array of different forms and colors of which Southern Splendour is one. A superb plant and especially if you are looking to create that tropical/Mediterranean effect. This amazing palm like Cordyline is a relatively recent introduction and one of the best of its type. Cordyline australis Southern Splendour has very striking purple centered and pink edged leaves. One of its main assets is that it is much sturdier than most other Cordylines of similar colour and can be planted outside in sheltered locations. More mature plants occasionally produce masses of small fragrant creamy flowers in late summer. Grow in fertile, free draining soil in sun or part shade. This plant can be used in a mixed planting or as a stand alone specimen in the garden or can easily be grown in a pot or other container. Protect from harsh frost. Use a good quality compost. Ensure you feed regularly as a hungry plant is a poor performer. We recommend Osmoscote pro 8-9 month applied in the early spring. One application gives all the nutrients the plant requires for the whole year.
